Events

Each year Follonica hosts various important and exciting events, festivals, fairs and celebrations that are always fun and fascinating. Here is a list of the best events organized in Follonica, from January through to December:

February:

- “Carnevale Follonichese” (Follonichese Carnival): a fun and pleasant event during which everyone is dressed in costumes and there are musical shows, a parade of floats and dancers and a band.

March:

- “Grey Cat Winter Festival”: very exciting and entertaining concerts.

- “Canti di Equinozio” (Equinox Chorals): another showcase of interesting concerts.

May:

- “Palio delle Bandiere” (Palio of the Flag): a ‘palio’ is a banner or cloth won during some type of traditional race or contest.  This palio is a recreation of an ancient race held in Follonica during the 19th century.

- “Cori in Concerto” (Choir in Concert): a fascinating and important musical show.

June and July:

- “Festival Geminiani” (Geminiani Festival):  a clever and unique series of shows, cultural manifestations and musical that draws a lot of attention each year.

- “Un Mare di Gusto” (A Sea of Tastes): a gastronomic celebration of the traditional cuisine of the coastal zone.

August:

- “Tra Sogno e Magia” (Between Dreams and Magic): an international magic fair.

- “Lo Sbaracco”: held in the second week of the month, this festival, has in the last years gained much fame and recognition. During the event the shopkeepers of the town bring their wares outside and sell them at very low prices.

- “Fuochi Artificiali” (Fireworks): organized for the night of the 14th, the show is visible along the coast of Follonica.

November:

-“Funghi in Città” (Mushrooms in the City): a popular festival dedicated to mushrooms.

Must see events:

“Carnevale Follonichese” (Follonichese Carnival): Perhaps the most important event organized in the town of Follonica, this festival draws a great deal of attention and curiosity each year.

The intense organization and beauty of the event makes it one of the major carnival festivities of Italy.

Filled with colourful and ornate costumes and floats, the parade requires a lot of work from the local population, who always achieve great results and create an event worthy of being appreciated in every light.

Held on Shrove Tuesday and Holy Thursday, the festival always manages to draw an ever increasing attendance number, with many tourists and locals attending the event to take part in the festivities and spend a fun and exciting day in Follonica.

With a parade of detailed and beautiful floats, a marching band, musical entertainment and heaps of costumed children, this colourful event is simply too good to miss.
