During the Middle Ages the city fell under the Aldobrandeschi family, becoming very interesting to the diocese of Volterra, before quickly passing into the hands of the Republic of Siena, then the politics of the houses of Tolomei and Buonsignori. After a short time under the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Montieri finally joined the new Kingdom of Italy.
